Temporary changes to the drop-off, pick-up, student parking, and busing arrangements
We would like to inform you of some temporary changes to the drop-off, pick-up, student parking, and busing arrangements at Iron Ridge Junior Campus and Iron Ridge Senior Campus due to ongoing road construction near the junior high and high school areas. These changes are being implemented when school begins on Sept. 3, to ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic during this construction period.
Construction Location and Timeline
The construction work is taking place on Leung Road, which will remain closed from Womacks south, including in front of the IRJC, until mid-September. During this time, access to certain areas will be affected, and adjustments are necessary to accommodate transportation needs. The work is expected to be completed by the 3rd or 4th week of September, weather permitting.
Changes to Parent Drop-Off and Pick-Up
- Drop-Off and Pick-Up Area: All parents are directed to use the west side of the IRSC parking lot for drop-off and pick-up for both the junior high and high school. This change will help avoid congestion on Leung Road.
- Traffic Guidance: A flag person will be present at the IRSC parking lot entrance to assist with directing traffic during the first few days of the school year.
High School Student Parking
- High school students who drive to school are also to use the west portion of the IRSC parking lot. Please DO NOT park along Leung Road until construction is complete.
Busing Updates
- Bus Routes: Buses will follow a new route, entering from Duncan Road, turning north on Leung Road, and using the loop in front of IRSC for both drop-off and pick-up. Buses will then exit south on Leung and proceed west on Duncan Road.
- No Parking in the Bus Loop: It is crucial that no vehicles are parked in the bus loop at IRSC to ensure a safe and efficient flow of traffic for our buses.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this period of road construction. These changes are in place to prioritize safety and minimize disruption to the school schedule. We will keep you updated on any further developments or required traffic flow and parking changes as needed, as the construction progresses.
Thank you for your attention to these important changes. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school administration or WCPS Transportation.
